How To Wrap A Shirt

Wrapping a shirt may seem like a simple task, but it takes some practice. What’s more important than the shape of the package is how it looks when you open it up. A paper wrapping job that looks sloppy and unprofessional can really ruin someone’s Christmas morning or birthday surprise! So here are my tips for wrapping shirts properly:

Start with a rectangular object, like a book or a flat box.

The first step is to find an object that is rectangular. This can be as simple as a box or book, but it should be about the same height and width as your shirt. In order for this method to work, it's important that the object is not too tall. If it's too tall, then you won't be able to press down firmly enough on both sides of the fabric while wrapping it around itself!

Lay your rectangular object on its side.

But first, you need to have a rectangular object. If you don't already have one, or if you're not sure what one looks like, try looking around your house for something that might be rectangular. If there's nothing obvious in your house right now, try asking someone else if they have a rectangle. You can also ask them if they know where any rectangles are located. They may tell you that no such thing exists and that they've never heard of such an object before; this is because they're lying to make themselves feel better about their lives, which are miserable by comparison with yours. Having established that there are indeed rectangles in the world—some of which can be found outside your home—you'll want to place it on its side so that it's easier for both of us when we wrap this shirt around it later on (and so as not to confuse anyone else).

Fold the sides in towards the middle.

  • Fold the sides in towards the middle.

  • Fold the sides in towards the middle.

Fold the bottom up so that it covers the sides.

Now fold the bottom up so that it covers the sides.

This should create two edges, one on each side of your shirt. If you're left with an edge that is shorter than your other two sides, go ahead and cut off that bit so that all three sides are equal in length.

You should have a square now.

  • Fold the square in half, bottom to top.

  • Fold one corner down to the opposite edge, and then flip over and repeat using the other side of the shirt.

  • Place your shirt on top of this new rectangle and fold up the sleeves if you'd like them to be smaller or tucked into your pants/skirt hemline more neatly; I prefer my sleeves a little longer than they come out after wrapping so that I can have it as an option later on (but if you're going to put it under something else first, then go ahead and fold up those sleeves).

Fold the square in half, bottom to top.

Now, it's time to fold your square in half. Fold the square in half from top to bottom. Then, fold it in half again from top to bottom. Finally, fold it in half once more from bottom to top. The result should be a rectangle with a long side and two short ends (or vice versa).

Now fold it in half again, bottom to top.

Now fold it in half, bottom to top.

That’s it! Your shirt is now ready for wear.

Fold one corner down to the opposite edge.

Fold one corner down to the opposite edge. Fold it over again, then fold it over a third time. Then finally, fold it over once more and you’re done!

Flip over and repeat on the other side.

Flip over the shirt and repeat the previous steps on this side. Make sure you fold over neatly while doing so, as it will be visible when you wear the shirt.

Place your shirt on top of this new rectangle, centered so that you can wrap each side around it separately. Wrap right side first, then left side over it. Make sure you fold over the collar neatly while doing so.

When you're done, your shirt should look like this:

You'll want to make sure you fold over the collar neatly while doing so. You can then repeat steps 8 and 9 until all of your shirts are wrapped!

Then roll up from the bottom until your shirt is completely inside your paper wrapping! Place neatly into a gift box!

Here's how it works:

  • Fold the bottom of your shirt over the wrapping paper, then fold in each side of the shirt.

  • Fold over one side of the collar, then tuck that under your first folds so that it doesn't show (you can leave it out if you want, but I like it tucked in).

  • Take another piece of wrapping paper and place it on top of your folded clothing to cover all the creases you've created with your previous folds; this will give you a smooth finish when you pull off the top layer! Add a bow if desired ;)

Conclusion

Hopefully you found this helpful, and maybe even a little bit fun. We hope that when you wrap your next shirt, it will be with the confidence of someone who has wrapped many shirts before!
